"Mr President, the revelations of the scale of US spying on millions of citizens in Europe give a whole new meaning to the term ‘special relationship’. This is a special relationship built on the monitoring of millions of our communications every single month. It is farcical that the US National Security Agency undoubtedly has a copy of the European mandate for the EU-US trade agreement whereas most MEPs are not allowed to see it and no ordinary citizens are allowed to access it. At the very least, negotiations have to be suspended until a full investigation takes place.
Edward Snowden’s current predicament is reminiscent of a chapter from Leon Trotsky’s autobiography called ‘A planet without a visa’. Shame on the European leaders like François Hollande, who like to talk about human rights but cower before the power of US imperialism! Their hypocrisy is galling.
