"I voted in favour of my colleague Rui Tavares and his recommendations on the situation of fundamental rights in Hungary. This country-specific report is the first of its kind in EU history, and serves both as a comprehensive documentation of the current situation in Hungary and as a set of recommendations for the Hungarian Government and this Parliament. One recommendation was to set up a mechanism to effectively enforce Article 2 of the Lisbon Treaty (which sets out the fundamental values of the Union). I hope that this report marks the start of a long overdue response to the steadily declining situation of fundamental rights in Hungary. I received a lot of lobbying on this from Hungarian people. Wales is proud to be part of a Europe which values tolerance, peace and equality, and we must protect those shared values when they come under threat."@en1
