"I supported this report which outlines the need for economic development and job creation in the maritime sector. I support the need for greater synergies between different economic sectors in order to enhance so-called ‘blue growth’ and believe that there is major untapped economic potential in maritime and costal sectors. I fully agree that there needs to be a new political approach to the maritime economy, particularly when it comes to jobs. The promotion of nautical and maritime careers needs is important if we are to get skilled workers to carry out jobs in the sector, such as blue energy, aquaculture, tourism and marine mineral extraction. Maritime and coastal tourism are also highly important for the economy – Europe’s seas have the largest share in the world market for yachting tourism and cruise shipping worldwide is growing in popularity. However, if this sector is to continue to grow, certain obstacles such as lack of innovation, diversity and infrastructure will have to be overcome. I believe that a ‘blue growth’ initiative will help costal regions achieve their true potential and help them to continue contributing to the economy."@en1
