"I voted in favour of this resolution which highlights the need for economic and social progress, which go hand in hand with one another. I specifically support the suggestion that adequate budgetary resources are needed in order to stimulate social investment. I wholeheartedly agree with the ‘frontloading’ of EUR 6 billion allocated to the Youth Unemployment Initiative, and believe that this should be a priority of the MFF; by the same token I believe that there should be a minimum share of 25% for the ESF from the cohesion policy budget, which will help in the fight against social exclusion and will prevent growing inequality in our society. The report rightly highlights the need for Member States to adopt measures to ensure more job creation, as well as promoting social protection and health and safety standards for workers. This report highlights the crucial role EU funds can play in promoting social investment – the EGF, the microfinance facility, the ESF and the Youth Employment Initiative are all vital tools in promoting social inclusion, combating poverty and providing jobs for EU citizens."@en1
