"Mr President, when the world’s major powers and EU political establishment need a pretext for imperialist interventions, they are only too happy to talk about the plight of refugees and the inhuman conditions that they face. However, it is nothing more than crocodile tears, the cynical hypocrisy which we have seen with the vote in Parliament today. This report gives Europol and Member States the right to request the fingerprint information of asylum seekers. It amounts to a further stigmatisation of asylum seekers and, together with the other reports adopted today, represents an attack on basic democratic rights. Asylum seekers in many European countries are already criminalised, isolated from society, and often kept in detention centres and even prisons. With the capitalist crisis, establishment politicians are attempting to deflect attention from the real causes of the crisis and are whipping up xenophobia and racism and demonising asylum seekers, refugees and minority groups. I reject this divide-and-rule tactic. We need a united resistance, a united movement of all working and oppressed people, regardless of their background, to resist the austerity and the crisis."@en1
