"The Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) will replace and expand on the EU food aid programme. FEAD will provide financial assistance to the most deprived EU citizens, including the homeless and children living in poverty. With 40 million people living in extreme poverty across Europe and a huge rise in those visiting food banks, there is clearly a moral imperative for us to make sure we direct some of our resources to helping those who are most in need. This report calls for EURÂ 3.5bn to be made available from 2014-20 in order to do just that. The UK Government has chosen not to participate in the scheme and argues that such measures should be left to individual Member States. However, so far the UK Government has not proposed alternative measures for helping the most deprived and, for this reason, I chose to support the report."@en1
