"I voted against the report on the minimum standards for the reception of asylum seekers. The Common European Asylum System is a package of different measures and, even after five years of negotiation, the overall result is disappointing and the system has not improved. It is important to my constituents in Wales, as it is to countries throughout the EU, to address this crucial issue that is under so much scrutiny at the moment. We have a duty to offer protection to those that are fleeing persecution and ensure that there are high standards for the way in which applications are treated."@en1
