"I was happy to support this report which seeks to lay down health requirements for pets travelling with their owners. This is important to help prevent instances such as the spread of disease. In my constituency of London, with a high density of pet ownership, the introduction of rabies into a certified rabies-free region could have serious consquences for pet and livestock populations. I further welcome the derogation for transportation between certified rabies-free states, such as the UK and Ireland, the allowance of non-vets to implant microchips so as to reduce the burden on animal welfare organisations, and the measures taken to ensure that the Regulation is not abused for commercial purposes."@en1
