"EU Member States lose an estimated EUR 1 trillion – or EUR 2 000 per person – in public money each year due to tax fraud and tax evasion. Tax fraud and evasion is a global problem that cannot be solved by Member States acting alone in isolation. It needs to be countered by stronger European and international action, not just declarations, with the aim of at least halving the EU tax gap by 2020. These lost revenues would go a considerable way towards providing the investments we need to make if we are to achieve the Europe 2020 targets, including the funds needed to support Youth Guarantee schemes. We need stronger European and international action on tax transparency and the automatic exchange of information in tax matters internationally, as well as more effective EU rules against state aid and access to public procurement for companies that evade tax. We also need to see Member States and third countries close tax loopholes in their own tax systems which facilitate tax evasion and fraud."@en1
