"Mr President, again and again we are bombarded with propaganda that says there is a demographic time bomb, we are living too long and we must therefore work longer. We see the identical logic in the troika diktats. It is the neoliberal logic that says that it is workers and their families who should pay for this crisis, and that the right of big business to amass vast profits is sacred and must not be questioned. Contrary to the propaganda, the resources are there to fund decent pension schemes for all. Productivity levels have increased sevenfold in the hundred years or so since the founding of many state pension schemes. What we are talking about are deferred wages of workers. There is EUR 750 billion in so-called excess cash holdings lying on the balance sheets of the major European corporations. These major corporate profits, that are not being invested or used in any socially useful way, should be used to fund pension schemes to ensure a decent income in retirement for all. Unfortunately neither of the resolutions voted on today points to this wealth as a solution."@en1
