The Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure is a surveillance mechanism that aims to identify potential risks, prevent the emergence of harmful macroeconomic imbalances and correct current imbalances. It is able to identify countries and issues for which closer analysis is deemed necessary. The MIP has a preventative and corrective arm, which can lead to sanctions for Member States that repeatedly fail to meet their obligations. It is very important for my constituents in Wales to know that the financial and economic framework of the EU is efficient and accountable. This motion facilitates and makes more efficient the monitoring of macroeconomic imbalances, and ensures that proper procedures are abided by."@en1
