"I voted for this report in which concern is expressed that the work of the Agency, the ‘pace-setter’ for information security in Europe which is currently based in custom-built premises in Crete, would be fragmented through a division of its headquarters between Athens and Heraklion, which would significantly increase the Agency’s operational costs and contradict the principle of sound financial management by adding financial and administrative burdens, in a period when economies are required. The report points out that the construction of the Agency’s brand new high-tech building in Heraklion, tailor-made to its operational needs, was completed in 2011 at a cost of EUR 6 000 000, in line with the Agency’s technical specifications. Further the report believes that a cost-benefit analysis of the division of the Agency’s headquarters and of the resulting parallel functioning in two cities should be undertaken by the competent institutions, such as the Court of Auditors or the Commission."@en1
