"Mr President, I have supported many of the issues raised in the Saïfi report, with its aim of achieving the sustainable and inclusive growth of all parties through, amongst other things, the transfer of technologies and skills, the development of new markets and related job opportunities.
In addition, I support the aim to achieve an increase in north-south and south-south competitiveness and productivity, which will ultimately contribute to greater social cohesion and a reduction in inequalities.
The ECR has amended the report to underline support for development of the private sector and its greater participation in trade and investment at different levels such as the local, regional, bilateral and multilateral levels.
However, I have had serious concerns on several issues in this report, in particular regarding the language on investor-state dispute settlement and new binding corporate social responsibility. As a member of the Committee on International Trade, I think a better wording can be found on these points, and I therefore decided to abstain from this vote."@en1
