"I abstained on this report as, although there is some good language in it on social, and human rights, it is weak on several important issues. Paragraphs on the maintenance of export taxes were deleted during the vote. Many developing countries depend on export taxes to attract foreign investment, for price stability, to improve terms of trade, and to deal with currency devaluations and inflation. Furthermore, a paragraph calling on the Commission to include binding Corporate Social Responsibility clauses in all bilateral trade and investment agreements signed by the EU was rejected. As a Fair Trade nation these issues are important to Wales."@en1
