"The European Court of Justice’s unreasonable Test-Achats ruling has adversely affected young female drivers who have seen their premiums rise by as much as 38 % since December last year. Those who welcome this judgment are out of touch and befuddled by ultra-feminism. Young female drivers have consistently proved to be far safer drivers than young males and they should benefit from lower insurance premiums because of it. Not only does this report welcome the ECJ ruling, but it also calls for the Commission to go further than the scope of the ruling. It calls for the Commission to police more actively discrimination on the basis of gender, not only in the field of insurance, but also for all goods and services. I voted against this report because I believe that insurance premiums should be decided on the basis of genuine risk. I am also strongly opposed to the concept of an EU gender police which may, as in the Test-Achats case, end up making things worse – not better – for women."@en1
