"Mr President, without doubt trade is essential for the economic well-being of all mankind. Certainly we hear more and more about trade in Parliament every week, especially with regard to developing free trade agreements in the absence of progress in the WTO.
I think that most of these trade agreements are in fact getting better as time goes by and as the Commission grapples with past difficulties, makes improvements and is obviously more conscious of how it will impact, particularly in the other states we are dealing with and especially, as speakers have mentioned in relation to the political situations there, obviously you cannot support corruption, multinationals, etc.
I think that, at the end of the day, we are gradually making progress. In particular I think that, where there are difficulties – especially in agriculture – review clauses would be an essential part in any of those situations."@en1
