"A Uachtaráin, go raibh maith agat as ucht an seans a thabhairt dom cúpla focal a rá ar ábhar atá idir lámha agam anseo anocht, is é sin fuinneamh agus go háirithe gás nádúrtha leachtaithe (LNG).
Security of supplies is important in relation to energy, and for that you need diversity of supply. Europe has moved well in that area in the last number of years, particularly in establishing renewables, which I fully support.
But I think we also have to look particularly at gas being probably the cleanest of the fossil fuels. Where we have supplies in Europe, we should exploit them in an environmentally-friendly way, and where we have not, I particularly welcome the establishment of LNG terminals. One of those is planned in my own constituency, Shannon LNG.
I think, from the hearing last week in Parliament, that there is a need for a one-stop-shop when it comes to planning and foreshore licences, not just in Ireland but across Europe. That is something we should look at to ensure that security of supply is there and that we have the diversity of supply which LNG guarantees."@en1
