"Mr President, I view this report as a great missed opportunity. Migration for work brings many benefits, but we also need to look at the pressure that migration has put on local services, and especially at the issue of migration for welfare and healthcare, which has affected so many parts of my own region as well as other parts of Europe.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to dealing with these issues. Member States need their own differentiated and tailored policies, rather than an EU policy.
I welcome those who come for asylum from torment and torture in other parts of the world but, while they are seekers of asylum, do they have, for example, the same access to the labour market that they would have once they were granted refugee status or asylum?
So no one-size-fits-all approach – and we must be careful about migration for welfare and for healthcare. That is something that we need to sort out."@en1
