"The protection of human health is an important part of EU policy (Article 35 of the Treaty). I and my Fine Gael colleagues supported this non-legislative report because it calls for much greater research to improve the state of scientific knowledge on the impact of endocrine disrupters on human health. We support the development of appropriate tests for identifying endocrine disruptors and criteria on how the interpretation of these tests, in conjunction with other relevant research, might be translated into legislative measures. The EU chemical regulatory framework – notably REACH – functions by identifying substances that are dangerous and by taking measures to protect people from harm. This system works well. Only when the science and thorough impact assessments are in place should additional or new regulation be considered where the science calls for it."@en1
