"I am placing this Explanation of Vote on the record in writing as I exceptionally had to return to Ireland due to a family bereavement. I welcome the vote in favour of the motion for a resolution on nuclear stress tests. It is of utmost importance that these tests were carried out to ensure public safety and public trust in nuclear power plants in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster. These tests have revealed a series of flaws in the nuclear power stock across Europe, so they are effective in their implementation. I believe that some of the amendments tabled, however, were superfluous and sought to undermine trust in the tests, so I would have voted against them. Overall, I would have been pleased to vote in favour of this important resolution in order to strengthen safeguards in the field of nuclear energy in Europe."@en1
