"Mr President, I too would like to thank the rapporteur for the good cooperation on this report. I can agree with her introductory remarks and, indeed, those of the Commission and most of the others we have heard this evening, though not quite all.
Her report is important because it recognises that integration is an active policy. It also recognises migrants as individuals, with different needs and, therefore, different programmes that need to work for those individuals if they are going to contribute to our societies and we are also going to contribute to their lives; we do not want people leaving the European Union at any stage having lost skills, having their talents under-used, or indeed not having their lives developed.
In that respect, it is also very important, in terms of the workplace being a key point of integration, to make sure that our anti-discrimination measures are working, that equality of treatment applies and indeed that we have in place a social security system that actually recognises those contributions once people have left the European Union."@en1
