"The demands made in this report are quite moderate in terms of womens’ representation. It does call for binding quotas to increase the number of women in governments and parliaments at all levels, as well as in the EU institutions, and talks of media, education and training, and decision-making. The Plaid Cymru leader, Leanne Wood, has called for legislation to increase the number of women in politics in Wales. I very much support the calls for Member States to propose a woman and a man as candidates for the EU Commission in 2014, but will repeat my demands that in the UK’s case the Commissioner should either be a post that is shared between the constituent nations or at the very least has to be approved by them before the appointment can be made. I abstained on the report because amendments were adopted with which I could not agree."@en1
