"Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make up the majority of businesses in Wales. Wales also has the lowest level of GVA in the United Kingdom and West Wales and the Valleys qualifies for the maximum level of aid through the EU’s Cohesion Policy. In order for our GVA to increase and for the number of people in employment to increase, we must provide more support for SMEs. This means easier access to funding. Social enterprises can also play an increasing role in helping the Welsh economy to grow. The EuSEF regulation has been proposed to provide a European ‘quality label’ for EuSEF funds primarily investing in social enterprises. It is intended to reassure investors in those funds that their money will, in fact, be used to boost this sector. This will be positive for Wales and that is why I voted in favour of this report."@en1
