"Mr President, I voted in favour of this important file. It lays out a framework for the EU to do more to support SMEs in gaining access to finance. As Liberal shadow for the opinion of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, I welcome the emphasis on gaining access to finance because it is absolutely essential, and the same SMEs that need less red tape and better access to finance are the ones that will ultimately create the jobs and growth that Europe needs to work its way out of the crisis. These businesses particularly need this finance if they are planning business expansion, and it is particularly important now because the banks are providing for less reliable lenders and are hiking up their interest rates, so reliable businesses are having to pay more and more in this respect. This report looks for innovative ways of helping mobilise cash for these businesses, and we must welcome that at this time of crisis."@en1
