"I voted for this resolution to agree with further strengthening the EU’s view of state aid and to reflect on the concerns made by many across Europe. Economic conditions are not optimum for many reasons, which means the environment both politically and economically mitigates against best outcomes. However, it is vitally important that Europe gets state aid right. It is key that rules applied across the EU can be shown to have the same force in all Member States. At the same time there is great sympathy and some support I know for the damaging effects of ill-thought-out and too speedy an introduction of changes associated with these rules. Public debt is the European watchword but opportunism has been the context for some in the past. A balance has to be struck."@en1
