"I do not think that most governments around the world, including in all of the countries in Europe, represent the interests of their own people. I think that is the case largely around the world. Yes, that is my belief.
I do accept the right of elected governments to make whatever decisions on their behalf but we have to defend people’s right to criticise that. I am not opposing in any sense the right of these countries to include these agreements, but I am certainly expressing my belief – and it is the belief of many civil society organisations in those countries – that it is not in the interests of their people. I criticise it from that point of view. I think the other factor here is the bullying role that was played by the Commission in the course of these negotiations, which left many of the governments with the sense that they had no choice but to conclude these agreements."@en1
