"After years of receiving convergence funding, Wales’s economy has not improved. Ahead of the next round, for which West Wales and the Valleys is likely to qualify once again, we need to look at how funds can be spent more effectively. Plaid Cymru has called for a proportion of funding to be invested in energy efficiency and renewable energy schemes, which would not only contribute to our climate change goals but would also be a boost to building a sustainable economy in Wales. I was pleased, therefore, to see that the Committee on Regional Development adopted a report on this subject. However, while the report contains some positive points, I voted against the final result as not enough support was given to renewable energy as opposed to possibly unsafe technologies such as fracking. I see tremendous potential for using cohesion funding to develop clean energy sources."@en1
