"With youth unemployment rates at 25% across the EU and as high as 50% in Greece and Spain, it is clearly one of the biggest problems we face at the moment. Helping young people into work is imperative if we are to have any chance of restoring growth to European economies and, more importantly, avoiding a lost generation of young people suffering damaging long-term unemployment. Labour MEPs have been calling for a European Youth Guarantee for some time, so I was delighted to support this Motion for a Resolution. The resolution calls for all young people who are not in education, training or work to be offered a good-quality offer of employment, further education or an apprenticeship within four months. It also calls for EU funding to be made available to finance the Youth Guarantee by allocating a significant proportion of structural funds. In difficult times, I believe this is exactly the sort of scheme that we should be spending EU money on."@en1
