"The steel industry has been a crucial factor in Wales’s industrial past and still plays an important role in our economy. The recent loss of 600 jobs at the Tata plants was a huge blow to communities and families in Wales. Nevertheless, the company’s assurances that investment will go ahead give some reassurance. I voted in favour of amendments which would allow for government support to be considered for the steel industry. The resolution called for monitoring and coordination of EU steel policy and maintaining technical know-how in the EU which is essential, but the environmental dimension of the report was weak and I abstained on the final vote."@en1
