"As an MEP for Northern Ireland I could not support the adoption of the report on noise-related operating restrictions on airports. While I do support an increased level of protection for EU citizens against airport noise there is a gaping omission in this report. The 2002/30/EC Directive, which has been revised by this report, made special provision for increased protection for residents close to city airports which do not attain the 50 000 air traffic movement threshold. George Best Belfast City Airport was one such airport covered by this provision. Residents from Greater Belfast, particularly those in East and South Belfast under the flight path, will no longer enjoy the protection afforded by the higher standards of the noise report. I welcome the balanced and Member-State-focused approach taken by this report; however, in the interest of my constituents, I would ask the Commission to reconsider the pertinent matter concerning the city airport provisions. These provisions are in danger of being lost and this would be to the serious detriment of a huge number of EU citizens resident by city airports across Europe."@en1
