"I voted against this Commission proposal for a Europe-wide survey of crime on the grounds that it would cost EUR 12 million and be of little added value. Collecting and analysing statistics at an EU level can be very useful in helping to formulate policies. It is also important that common methodologies and formats are used so that figures are compatible. However, this proposal cannot be supported, particularly at a time of economic crisis. In Wales, we have just elected police commissioners, albeit with a very low turnout. Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood called this week for the devolution of criminal justice to Wales. Safety from crime is an issue of great concern to my constituents, but I do not believe that this survey is a priority."@en1
