"Globalisation has positive and negative effects on the economy. One of the consequences is the relocation of companies or factories outside the EU. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund helps workers find new jobs and develop new skills when they have lost their job as a result of this or as a result of the economic crisis. In my constituency, Wales, we have seen companies uprooting and moving to where they can find cheaper labour and we have all felt the effects of the crisis. When Burberry closed their factory in the Rhondda, I called on the Welsh government to apply for this funding. They did not. But this money would have done so much to help those who had lost their jobs. I voted for awarding EGF funding to Flextronics as their employees should receive the support necessary to help them to get back onto the job market."@en1
