"I supported this report because of the inescapable statistical reality: in Europe, estimates show that, on average, a woman lives six years longer than a man, but often in poorer conditions in terms of health and personal economy. Research shows that while some seven million people are affected by particular forms of mental illness, almost five million of these are women. I applaud my colleague Roberta Angelilli, who as rapporteur has consistently highlighted these and other important facts. For example, she has noted that it is not sufficiently well-known that, on average, cardiovascular disease affects more women than men. This resolution is a gentle, but forceful, reminder to EU Member States that these important health statistics need to be adequately incorporated into evolving healthcare systems, so that we can provide better, more targeted and more innovative solutions to ensure the healthy and active ageing of our continent. As the rapporteur has observed: ‘the key words are “prevention” and “information”’."@en1
