"Mr President, there is no doubt that anti-microbial resistance is a threat to the agriculture industry, but it also requires a measured approach – an approach which should be tailored to the needs of the industry, greater awareness of products on the market and the need for more money to be invested in research and development to investigate the threat of such resistance.
I also believe that Pillar 2 funds in the CAP should be used to increase the interaction between farmers and vets, constructing animal health plans which will reduce the reliance on antibiotics and vaccines. Simple solutions, like improved housing facilities and improvements in animal husbandry to help early detection of problems, will reduce the use of these products. I believe the solution can be found by working with farmers, vets and scientists. It is also important that regulations are enforced across all Member States. We should not have a two-tier system in the European Union."@en1
