"In spite of women’s greater life expectancy it unfortunately does not follow that this means that they enjoy more years of good health. In fact, it remains that older women are actually more susceptible to certain diseases such as cancer, osteoporosis and rheumatism. The consistent gender pay gap a woman will experience over her lifetime inevitably leads to a worrying pensions pay gap – leaving many older women at risk of poverty and subsequently much more at risk of ill health. The economic crisis and the accompanying savage austerity cuts are having a serious impact on the most vulnerable sections of society, such as older women. It is vital that older women have the right to live a dignified and independent life and play their part in culture and society. Their right to good health cannot be ignored."@en1
