Above all at a time of economic crisis I think that it is advisable to be as prudent as possible and to learn from the mistakes of the past. I do not share the rapporteur’s view that the EU should launch a campaign in favour of enlargement in the candidate countries, since I do not believe that enlargement has proved successful in all cases or that visa liberalisation has always proved beneficial. For these reasons I did not vote in favour of the proposal."@en1
