"I voted for the resolution on the Doha Climate Change Conference. Climate change represents a constant and possibly irreversible threat to humanity and the planet and requires concerted international action. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), world energy consumption will rise by a third between 2010 and 2035, with the biggest increase in energy consumption and emissions to originate in the developing world. Innovative action to reduce carbon emissions in the energy sector may benefit the EU, which is a global leader in the production of energy goods and services.
I believe that a coherent environmental protection policy is essential for an effective EU strategy to combat and adapt to climate change. I would draw attention to the urgent need to avoid a funding delay after 2012 and identify a way to ensure adequate funding for climate change programmes for 2013-2020."@en1
