"I voted in favour of this motion for a resolution, as it makes clear the extreme importance of the matter and Parliament’s concerns in this regard. Climate change, which was denied by many Members a few years ago, must today be one of the main items on the international community’s political agenda if we are to mitigate the disastrous effects it can have. The motion for a resolution stresses the role Parliament must play in the forthcoming talks in Doha, insisting that Parliament must give its consent to agreements with third countries or international organisations. According to the motion for a resolution, the European Union must continue to play a ‘breakthrough’ role with regard to emission reduction policies and objectives in order to alleviate the effects of climate change. This is why I voted in favour of the motion for a resolution."@en1
