"I did not support the European Parliament resolution concerning the Climate Change Conference in Doha because it fails to take into account the interests of Hungary and the other Central and Eastern European Member States. I think it is unacceptable that, despite the fact that the EU15 could not have met their Kyoto commitments without the massive emissions reductions achieved by the new Member States, they are now ignoring the legitimate demand of these countries to carry over their Kyoto surplus. Unless we arrive at a compromise that is acceptable to everyone, we will not reach a unified position, and this will jeopardise the chances of asserting the EU’s interests effectively in the international climate negotiations."@en1
