"The serious cases of human trafficking, including minors, demonstrate that prevention measures are slow and inefficient. It is our duty to shed light on this phenomenon again. Every minute wasted because of the lack of communication within the Council had negative consequences in horrible situations involving children. The Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 helps to combat trafficking in minors by setting up an efficient system that allows the parties to cooperate on international abductions and quick repatriation. Therefore, the accession to the Convention of the eight third countries is extremely important.
In my opinion, the Council must take immediate action, and it must adopt the Commission’s proposals and stop its feeble excuses. I am in complete agreement with my colleagues who advocate the accession of the eight countries to the Convention in order to put an end to this terrible situation."@en1
