"The 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction establishes a system allowing participating states to cooperate in order to find a solution to international child abductions. This Convention only applies between countries which have ratified or acceded to it, which is why the acceptance of accessions is therefore of the utmost importance. Bearing in mind that the children’s interests are of paramount importance, and that their protection must prevail over any other interest, we consider that it is vital and urgent to establish the most effective ways of guaranteeing the immediate return of an abducted child to his or her country of habitual residence. We therefore voted in favour of this resolution."@en1
