"In the lively debate on shale gas in the European Union and its Member States, there is no absolute truth. There is clearly a halfway point between those who are pro shale gas and those who are anti it, and it is essential to take the heat out of the debate. It would be a major strategic error to renounce this energy source now without even continuing the research. Equally, however, allowing unbridled exploration when the technique is not yet fully developed would be environmental madness. Shale gas has undeniable potential and we need to look at it seriously. As things stand, however, shale gas exploration puts the environment at risk and it would be irresponsible to go down that path."@en1
