"I voted in favour of the report by Ms Tzavela on industrial, energy and other aspects of shale gas and oil. In Italy shale gas extraction is not viable while in other Member States the situation is quite different. Those in Parliament who declare their opposition despite the wish to have further study and research in this sector only encourage dependence on foreign fossil fuel resources. The report underlines how investments in this sector have to be entirely covered by the industry, which would also cover the costs of any direct or indirect damage in application of the ‘polluter pays’ principle."@en1
