"I support this report because it is right that, given its accession to the World Trade Organisation, the Russian Federation has agreed to reduce its currently applied export duty rates on raw wood products. This alteration will allow, on the one hand, tariff-rate quotas to be allocated to the European Union and, on the other hand, the EU share of tariff-rate quotas to be managed by the European Union and Russia. It is vital that, in its global relations, the European Union constantly adapts and that, as new industrialised countries increasingly capture global market share, in direct competition with the European Union, the EU can protect European producers and manufacturers from the rest of the world, as only in this way can we have a competitive and growth-oriented Europe."@en1
