Italy requested support from the Fund after a series of earthquakes in the north of the country in May 2012. In addition to the human losses, the earthquakes caused serious physical damage to housing, industries, farms, cultural sites, and so on. I am pleased that the Members of the European Parliament voted to mobilise the Fund, demonstrating dignity and solidarity."@en1
