"Mr President, I would like to put two questions to Commissioner Tajani. I do not want to repeat what my colleagues have said – much although certainly not all of which I agree with – on the strategic importance of steelworks in Europe. We often lament this, not realising, Commissioner Tajani, that the world has changed. When we talk, as many of my colleagues have, about dominant positions – in other words, antitrust – we forget that we still have laws that date back to 1957, when the world was divided in two: Europe on one side and the United States on the other. Today the world has completely changed: there are different situations, new markets such as India, China and Brazil, and competition which is – admittedly – at times unfair. I wonder, Commissioner, do we want to amend the old, antiquated, outdated laws? My second question is, when mergers are not possible, what do we do; will the Commission help these companies avoid speculation?"@en1
