"Mr President, Europe is no longer competitive in certain fields. This is a fact we have to accept, but not put up with. We need to drastically reduce our dependence on regions outside Europe in such strategic industries as steel. We cannot abandon expertise that is more than 200 years old to the mere whims of the market. We need an urgent European initiative.
I therefore ask you seriously: what strategy are you going to adopt to prevent certain governments, like France, from carrying out lone attempts at industrial recovery which are fruitless and counterproductive, and destructive in terms of both jobs and investments?"@en1
