".
The harmonisation of European rules on credit card payments will make life simpler for European citizens, who are increasingly on the move and making online card payments. Every card payment, whether made online or by telephone, will be safer and cheaper from now on. Currently, the costs of processing card payments are often too high. Making costs more transparent will encourage operators to bring the invoiced cost closer to the real cost. The establishment of a single card payment system modelled on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) constitutes progress, since this mechanism has proved effective in improving cross-border bank transfers throughout the participating States. Henceforth, citizens will be able to make payments in a given country via an account in another country. The Commission needs to draw up clear, objective rules to ensure that some sites or file hosting services are not excluded from online payments without justification."@en1
