"The subject of intellectual property rights is certainly very complex, and it raises questions that are unquestionably relevant to the protection of artists’ rights, especially at a time when the sector is expanding and becoming increasingly globalised. This Directive concerns the regulation of the resale right, or the right of an author of a work of art over subsequent sales of the original. This is a very tricky matter which raises a series of problems, especially as regards artists at the lower end of the market, who would be harmed by the costs of administering this right. In this respect, I agree with the rapporteur’s call for protection of the youngest artists launching themselves on the market, who undoubtedly need better safeguards in order to be competitive."@en1
