"Madam President, this House has long been convinced of the need to transform the European Union into a federation as rapidly as possible.
Even though I also represent people who recognise the tremendous benefit of European integration, many of the demands within the present report fill me with concern. I have not voted in favour of this report, because it seems to me as if this Parliament wants at all costs to outpace natural evolution, whilst using the threat of the ongoing economic crisis. At the same time, considerations of a common fiscal policy, banking union, etc., are based on the assumption that citizens of Member States feel a sense of mutual solidarity. However, such solidarity exists only when people share common values, but as our daily experience shows, the debate on common European values will remain open for a long time to come, at least until discrimination against and intolerance towards Christians ceases."@en1
